Weekly funding requests

WEEKLY INFORMATION

Students and student organizations are allowed to request money through weekly meetings. The Finance Committee meets weekly on Thursdays starting at 3:30 PM.

ELIGIBILITY

Chartered organizations are eligible to request weekly funding from the Chartered Organizations Fund (COF). Chartered organizations can come to weekly for the following:

  • Events and items not funded in semester budgets

  • Events and items not previously requested in semester budgets

  • New or unforeseen costs associated with events

Any campus organization, individual, or organizations with temporary charters are eligible for the Senate Fund. Any item or expense may be requested.

THE PROCESS

All weekly funding requests should abide by the Senate Finance Committee Standards. The Committee does not fund prior debt or expense incurred before presenting the request to the Committee.

The weekly funding form must be submitted by 3:30 PM on Monday to be heard on the following Thursday during the Finance Committee meeting. The Funding Request Form can be found on the Student Senate page on SMU 360.

The Finance Chair will schedule you for a time on Thursday once your request is submitted. Make sure to check Connect because they will communicate with you in the comment section on your form. During your meeting time, you will tell us about your event and explain the reasoning for the funding request. You may prepare materials or a presentation if you would like, but it is not required.

The Finance Committee will vote on your request. The Finance Chair will present to Student Senate on the following Tuesday which will start a two-week approval process. Once approval is complete, the Finance Chair will communicate the final amount approved for your organization.
