Senate recognition of student organizations
Student organizations at SMU may seek recognition from Student Senate by applying for a charter. Organizations can initially apply for a Base Charter or Unfunded Charter. After holding a Base Charter for a year, the organization can apply for a Full Charter. An unfunded charter cannot apply for a Full Charter. In all stages, student organizations have rights and responsibilities accessible in the Committee bylaws (Article VI. Privileges of Student Organizations)
The process is managed by the Senate Organizations Committee led by Chair Walker McLelland.
